Detroit-based animator and Twitter user Elsa The Cartoonist kicked off what has probably been our favorite social media thread of the year so far when she prompted other users to “Show me your favorite animation you’ve done!”

In the days since, Elsa’s post has been liked more than 4,500 times, retweeted more than 600 times, and quote tweeted more than 2,800 times. The majority of the quote tweets included short animated clips, creating one of the most diverse, exciting, and original collections of animation we’ve seen on social media.

Below are some clips that stood out to us from the myriad of submissions. Surely there are many, many more that are deserving of being singled out, but there are only so many hours in the day and we’ve got other work to do.

Pafbar’s Sam and Max animation was a major crowdpleaser:

Tonic DNA animator Tazi’s Godzilla clip got a monstrous reception:

Writer and animator Irving George shared his incredibly fun short big money:

Kévin Gemin, Kéké on Twitter, was laughing while they animated this clip and we were laughing as we watched it again and again:

Daisy shared this chaotic bit from their work The Mind Electric Animation – Lonely-Man’s Lazarus:

Pixar animator Jonah Sidhom submitted this timely little gif:

Kosmo Columbo Perry shared some delightfully vintage work they’ve done:

Nasus Lee was proud of the work they did animating American sign language in this clip, and with good reason:

This infinitely looping video from Drawmadillo about a poor cat stuck in a sea of dogs was one of the more popular replies:

Has Pacman ever looked better than he does in this bouncy clip from Sergio Monty?:

We could go on, and on, and on with the list. There are hundreds of incredible clips in the replies and retweets, and we suggest going down that rabbit hole the next time you have a lot of time to waste.
