Netflix’s ‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners’ Joins Growing Trend Of Streaming-Era Anime Getting Physical Releases
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Netflix’s popular anime series adaptation from Studio Trigger and CD Projekt Red, will get a Blu-ray release in North America this fall.
Aniplex of America has announced that the show’s complete Blu-ray box set will be released on October 28, available exclusively through the Crunchyroll Store. The set marks the first home video release of the 10-episode series outside of Japan, following its streaming run on Netflix.
Produced in collaboration with CD Projekt Red, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners expands the world of the hit video game Cyberpunk 2077 through frenetic and violent animation provided by Trigger. Screenplays were penned by Yoshiki Usa (Wooser’s Hand-to-Mouth Life) and Masahiko Otsuka (Little Witch Academia), with music composed by Akira Yamaoka, best known for his work on the Silent Hill video game series and film.
Edgerunners follows David Martinez, a teenager navigating the violent underworld of Night City after a personal tragedy pushes him toward the life of an “edgerunner.”
At Anime Expo 2025 earlier this summer, CD Project Red and Studio Trigger revealed that a second season for the show is in the works, sharing a brief teaser.
Crunchyroll’s Season 1 collector’s edition three-disc box set includes:
- An exclusive illustrated cover by Yoh Yoshinari (Little Witch Academia), who also served as character designer and animation director on the series.
- A special booklet and a storyboard booklet of the final episode by director Hiroyuki Imaishi (Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill).
- Three character cel sheets and a 2nd-anniversary commemorative poster.
Pre-orders are now open, with a suggested retail price of $123.98.
The release highlights the increasing significance of physical media in today’s streaming-dominated landscape. For many fans, box sets offer permanence and collectability in contrast to the shifting availability of shows on streaming platforms. In recent years, anime and animation distributors have increasingly responded to demand from collectors who want tangible editions of digital-first titles. GKIDS, for instance, partnered with Riot Games and Netflix to bring Arcane to DVD and Blu-ray earlier this year, ensuring the series could be preserved outside of streaming. Aniplex of America’s Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Blu-ray continues this trend, giving fans a definitive way to own the series while offering premium extras that highlight its creative pedigree.
