It was a Netflix kind of evening at the 47th annual ASIFA-Hollywood Annie Awards, with the streaming service winning 19 out of 32 categories, including both top feature film prizes.

To increase its chances of winning multiple feature awards, Netflix strategically ran Klaus in the feature animation category, while placing I Lost My Body in the Indie Feature category. The gamble paid off as Netflix won both categories.

The biggest winner tonight was the Spain-produced Klaus, which picked up a total of seven awards. Besides the top feature prize, the Sergio Pablos-directed film also won honors for its character animation, character design, storyboarding, production design, directing, and editing.

Jérémy Clapin’s I Lost My Body from France came up with two other key prizes besides the indie feature award: writing and music.

Love, Death & Robots was the big Netflix winner on the series side, picking up four awards, while Carmen Sandiego earned two honors. Other Netflix series winners were Bojack Horseman, Ask the Storybots, and Tuca & Bertie.

The Walt Disney Company ended the evening with six awards, a decline from 2019 when it won 10 awards and 2018 when it won 14 awards. The awards Disney won: two for the Mickey Mouse shorts (children’s series, tv directing), two for Frozen 2 (voice acting for feature, effects animation), and one apiece for Avengers: Endgame (character animation in a live-action film) and Bob’s Burgers (voice acting for tv).

The Oscar frontrunner, Disney-Pixar’s Toy Story 4, which had a total of six nominations, was locked out completely. Laika’s Missing Link, which won the Golden Globe a few weeks ago and had eight Annie nominations, also went home emptyhanded, as did Dreamworks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, which had six nominations.

The awards were presented at UCLA’s Royce Hall in Los Angeles, California.
