The visual effects branch executive committee determined this shortlist. All members of the Academy’s visual effects branch will be invited to view 10-minute excerpts from each of the shortlisted films on Saturday, January 5, 2019, in what is commonly referred to as the “vfx bake-off.” Following the screenings, members will vote to nominate five films for final Oscar consideration.
