‘Coyote Vs. Acme’ Refuses To Stay Buried, Opens At No. 5 Worldwide With $23.9M Debut

The film Warner Bros. tried to bury has debuted in the global box office top five.

Dave Green’s Coyote vs. Acme earned an estimated $23.9 million worldwide over the weekend, placing fifth on Comscore’s global chart. That included $15.5 million domestically (better than projected) and $8.4 million internationally, bringing its worldwide total to $23.9 million.

For a completed film that once faced the prospect of never being seen by paying audiences, it is a particularly satisfying opening chapter to its theatrical run. It’s also a film that could easily leg out a strong run, given the incredibly favorable reviews and strong word of mouth.

The film earned an A CinemaScore from opening-night audiences and held a 95% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. Those responses give distributor Ketchup Entertainment plenty of reason to hope that interest will extend beyond the fans who followed the campaign to save it and the film’s first week in cinemas.
