‘Toy Story 5’ Tracking For Franchise-Best $140 Million Opening
Following rave reviews and early reactions, Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5 is set for one of the biggest animation openings in recent memory, with industry tracking pointing to a domestic bow of around $140 million and a global launch that could reach $275 million this weekend.
If those projections come good, the film would deliver the largest opening in Toy Story franchise history, surpassing the $120.9 million debut of Toy Story 4 in 2019. The fifth installment is also expected to rank among the biggest openings of 2026 when all is said and done.
Directed by Andrew Stanton and co-directed by Kenna Harris, Toy Story 5 reunites Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the rest of the gang for a story centered on children’s growing attachment to technology. The film arrives 31 years after the original Toy Story.
The franchise has grossed more than $3 billion worldwide across its first four films and remains one of Disney and Pixar’s most valuable brands. Recent Disney estimates place total franchise revenue, including consumer products and related businesses, at roughly $16 billion.
The strong forecast continues an impressive 2026 for Pixar, which successfully launched Hoppers to the tune of $372 million at the global box office, and positions Toy Story 5 as the company’s biggest box office event since Inside Out 2 (2024), which hit nearly $1.7 billion during its incredible run.
