The First ‘Toy Story 5’ Trailer Is Out And Pits Toys Vs Screens
Pixar has dropped the first real look at Toy Story 5, not counting a couple of tiny teases and Woody shaking his ass during the Super Bowl, and the film’s first teaser sets up an unexpectedly timely conflict for Woody, Buzz, and the rest of Bonnie’s old crew.
After years of pastoral adventures and heartfelt reunions, the toys are suddenly faced with a new kind of rival: a slick, high-tech frog-shaped tablet called Lilypad that captures every bit of a child’s attention and threatens to make classic playthings obsolete.
The film is directed by Toy Story vet Andrew Stanton, a longtime Pixar veteran whose credits also include Finding Nemo and WALL-E.
The footage lays out a central theme of the sequel, which pits old-school toys versus modern screens. Woody and Buzz still carry their trademark optimism, but their uneasy reaction to Lilypad signals a shift in tone that feels grounded in the way kids engage with play today.
No clear indication on whether the new Lilly Pad is AI-powered or will spout Chinese Communist Party talking points, but it does seem to have bad intentions and mentions that it’s always listening.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
