Fantasias Animadas Fantasias Animadas

Canary Islands-based studios Double Duck Animation and 3Doubles Producciones (Flamingo Flamenco, Giants of La Mancha) have announced Fantasías Animadas, a new two-day showcase designed to connect international animation students with industry professionals. The inaugural edition will take place December 12–13 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Billed by the companies as both an educational forum and a celebration of animated filmmaking, the event emphasizes the value of “craftsmanship and unique human touch required for high-quality storytelling,” at a time when rapid changes and increased automation are impacting the animation industry.

Aythami Castellano, CEO of Double Duck Animation, said the launch reflects a strategic investment in talent development:

This first edition is a commitment to the future of our industry. By connecting students and established professionals, we champion the talent and specialized training that truly make animation an art form.

Programming includes public screenings and academic networking sessions, featuring major global titles such as 3Doubles’ own Heidi: Rescue of the Lynx, the breathtaking Chinese CG film Deep Sea, Mexico’s stop-motion feature I am Frankelda (Soy Frankelda), and the popular French sequel Ernest and Celestine: A Trip to Gibberitia. Organizers say the selections were curated to expand the perspectives of both local students and general audiences.

Darío Sánchez, CEO of 3Doubles Producciones, underscored the studio’s longstanding international focus:

3Doubles has always operated with a global vision, deeply committed to fostering contact and collaboration between different countries and artists around the globe. We hope ‘Fantasías Animadas’ is just the first of many editions to cement Tenerife as a hub for international animation exchange.

All event proceeds will fund a holiday initiative providing toys to children in underserved local communities.

Both studios are framing the event as part of a broader effort to position the Canary Islands as an international animation center. Double Duck focuses on 2D production and original IP, while 3Doubles — which now employs more than 200 artists — continues to scale its feature and series work, including titles such as Inspector Sun, 200% Wolf, Gungo, and Flamingo Flamenco.
