Saturday, September 13, Metrograph will host Made in New York: Best of NYC Indie Animation, a one-night-only showcase celebrating the city’s scrappy and inventive animation scene. The 73-minute program, curated by acclaimed N.Y.C.-based animators Bill Plympton and Signe Baumane, features 15 short films that highlight the humor, grit, and artistic individuality of New York’s homegrown and adopted talent.

The event kicks off at 5:00 p.m. with an introduction by Plympton and Baumane, followed by screenings that range from Oscar-winning classics to works by emerging animators. A lively post-screening panel discussion will bring together an impressive lineup of filmmakers, including Chris Wedge, Debra Solomon, John Dilworth, Morgan Miller, Lisa LaBracio, Patrick Smith, Candy Kugel, Alex Budovsky, and more.

“What makes NYC indie animators so special? Sense of timing,” Baumane explains. “This program showcases just a sliver of the best NYC indie animation: some of the films are Oscar winners, others are made by animation newcomers, but they all share the sense of wonder, adventure, and perfect NYC timing to make you laugh, cry, and be entertained.”
