‘Care Bears’ 40th Anniversary Screening To Support Workers Impacted By Wildfires
To mark the 40th anniversary of The Care Bears Movie, the newly launched Saturday Morning Cartoons United is hosting a one-day charity screening on October 11
, at the American Cinematheque’s historic Aero Theatre in Santa Monica, with proceeds going to help animation workers affected by the California wildfires.
The celebration will feature a big-screen presentation of the 1985 film, followed by a panel hosted by voice actor Eric Bauza (Looney Tunes Cartoons). Joining him will be director Arna Selznick, original cast member Cree Summer, and YouTube creator Andre Meadows (Black Nerd Comedy), who will share behind-the-scenes stories.
The program also includes a screening of Nimbus, a whimsical 2022 animated short by Rémy Poisson, plus a pop-up shop from nostalgia-driven lifestyle brand Cakeworthy and interactive fan experiences designed to capture the feeling of Saturday mornings in your pajamas.
Proceeds from ticket and merchandise sales will benefit AnimAID, a fund supporting animation professionals affected by recent California wildfires, and Legends Animated, the nonprofit behind the global 24 Hours Animation Contest for Students.
The event also marks the soft launch of Saturday Morning Cartoons United, a new brand from Los Angeles creative agency Sweet Streets. The initiative aims to celebrate the spirit of classic animation through curated events and collaborations that give back to the animation community.
Doors open at 1:30 p.m., with the screening set to begin at 2:30 p.m. at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica. Tickets and info are available here: https://www.
