‘Bluey’ Gets August 2027 Theatrical Release Date
BBC Studios, Walt Disney Studios, and Australia’s Ludo Studios have announced that their feature-length Bluey film will hit theaters on August 6, 2027.
The CG-animated movie is written and directed by Bluey creator Joe Brumm, with Ludo Studio’s Amber Naismith (Happy Feet, The LEGO Movie) producing. Richard Jeffery, who has directed episodes across the show’s first three seasons, will co-direct. Returning voice talent Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack will reprise their beloved roles as Mum (Chilli) and Dad (Bandit).
This marks the theatrical feature debut of the Emmy and BAFTA Award-winning blue heeler and her family (several episodic collections have hit theaters in parts of the world), whose everyday adventures have captured audiences worldwide. Bluey has become a cultural juggernaut since premiering in 2018, now streaming in over 140 markets. It was the most-watched series on Disney+ globally in 2024 and the most-streamed show across all platforms in the U.S. that same year, according to Nielsen. The series has also picked up a Peabody Award and back-to-back Television Critics Association (TCA) Awards in recent years.
BBC Studios is financing and licensing the film, with distribution handled by Walt Disney Studios. The project is supported by Screen Australia and Screen Queensland, reinforcing the show’s Australian roots. Earlier this summer, Brisbane, Australia-based Cosmic Dino Studio opened a 16,000-plus square-foot studio to begin working on the film.
With Bluey continuing to dominate streaming charts and solidify its place as one of the most influential family franchises of the decade, the 2027 feature looks set to extend the brand’s reach and bring its signature warmth and humor to a new big-screen audience.
