This Sunday In LA: You’re Invited To An ‘Ultraman: Rising’ FYC Screening, Q&A, And Reception
Chicken for Linda! Chicken for Linda!

Standout French sales and production company Charades (I Lost My Body, Mirai) has joined Chiara Malta and Sébastien Laudenbach’s quirky kids’ film Chicken for Linda!

Details:

  • Laudenbach is the director of the daring and beautiful hand-drawn feature The Girl Without Hands, which he animated entirely by himself. An Annecy regular, he has competed at the festival with not just that feature, but also Vibrato, Regarder Oana, and Des câlins dans les cuisines. Malta is best known for her work in live-action filmmaking, in particular her 2019 feature Simple Women, which she co-wrote with Laudenbach. The husband-and-wife team have worked together regularly over the years on both live action and animation projects, most recently co-directing the live-action short A comme Azur.
  • Chicken for Linda! is produced by Dolce Vita Films and Miyu Productions in France, with Italian co-producer Palosanto. When we first reported on the film in 2019, the prdoucers had said the budget was around USD$2.5 million.
  • Synopsis: Paulette realizes she has unfairly punished her daughter Linda. To make up for it, she promises to cook her a chicken with peppers, even though she doesn’t even know how to cook. But where can she find a chicken when there’s a national one-day strike and all the shops are closed?
  • Here’s how Cartoon Brew contributor Stéphane Dreyfus
    described the feature
after seeing it pitched at Cartoon Movie a few years back: “Frantic chases, quid pro quo, and chicken feather allergies are the ingredients of this tender slapstick project whose pop art colors (each character has its own tangy hue) and energetic animation dazzled the Cartoon Movie audience. Like in The Girl Without Hands, movement is more important than the details of the sets, props, and characters. In some scenes, the children of the neighborhood will be represented abstractly as dots.”
  • The announcement was made at the Annecy Festival, where the film will host a sold-out work-in-progress presentation on Friday morning with Malta, Laudenbach, and Miyu producers Margaux Duseigneur and Erwan Kerzanet in attendance.
  • Charades has two titles in competition at this year’s Annecy: Unicorn Wars and Little Nicholas: Happy As Can Be.

The news of Charades’ involvement in Chicken for Linda! was first reported by Variety.
