Dreamworks Announces ‘Trolls 3’ For 2023

Dreamworks Animation’s Trolls franchise will continue with a third feature film: Trolls 3 set for release on November 17, 2023.

Dreamworks has yet to reveal any details about the film or its crew, but apparently Trolls 3 will be a theatrical exclusive for somewhere between 17-31 days, before becoming available as a premium video on demand (PVOD) title.

The studio’s parent, Comcast-NBCUniversal, experimented with the PVOD approach for the release of Trolls World Tour in 2020. That film earned just $47 million in global box office (because theaters were shuttered in most countries when the film released), however it also grossed over $100 million from PVOD platforms.

Inspired by the Danish toy franchise, Dreamworks’s take on the characters has resulted in not just feature films, but also two series – Trolls: The Beat Goes On! on Netflix and Trolls: Trollstopia on Hulu and Peacock – and the tv special Trolls Holiday. A second holiday special, Trolls Holiday in Harmony, will premiere this Friday, November 26, at 9pm ET/PT on NBC.
