Briarcliff Entertainment has acquired U.S. distribution rights to Stitch Head, a new animated feature based on the popular children’s book by Guy Bass, and will release the film – in association with Rabbits Black – nationwide on October 29, just in time for Halloween.

Premiering earlier this summer at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Stitch Head is directed by Steve Hudson and produced by GFM Animation and Assemblage Entertainment.

An official synopsis for the film reads: “In his haphazard laboratory in Castle Grotteskew, the maddest of mad professors brings his latest monstrous creation to (almost)-life. Watching in the shadows is the professor’s first, long-forgotten creation, Stitch Head. A tiny, strange-looking fellow made up of bits, pieces, and spare parts. One day, a tired-looking freak show comes to town, led by its own,r Fulbert Freakfinder. The show needs a new attraction. When Freakfinder meets humble Stitch Head, he knows he has found his star.”

Described by Briarcliff CEO Tom Ortenberg as “Frankenstein meets Monsters, Inc.,” the film promises a mix of spooky, funny, and heartfelt storytelling with striking animation. The voice cast includes Asa Butterfield, Joel Fry, Alison Steadman, Rob Brydon, and Fern Brady.

Stitch Head is a delightful and funny family film,” said GFM Animation chairman Guy Collins. “With Briarcliff on board, we’re confident we’re on track for a global hit.”

Briarcliff will release Stitch Head in association with Rabbits Black. The film is produced by Sonja Ewers and Mark Mertens, with worldwide sales handled by GFM Animation.
