Distributor GKIDS has set Friday, December 19, as the North American release date for the Irish hand-drawn feature Song of the Sea. The film will open on the 19th at the IFC Theater in New York and the TIFF Bell Lightbox Theater in Toronto, before expanding to Los Angeles and other major markets throughout the holidays.

Inspired by Irish folklore and mythology, Song of the Sea is directed by Tomm Moore whose debut feature The Secret of Kells was nominated for an Oscar in 2010. Song of the Sea’s world premiere will take place Saturday, September 6, at the Toronto International Film Festival.
