KPop Demon Hunters, the Sony Pictures Animation production distributed by Netflix, launched at no. 2 globally among English-language movies in its first week of release on the streaming platform.

In its first three days of release, the one-hour-forty-minute film racked up 9.2 million views and 15.4 million viewing hours. (Netflix’s weekly data reports begin on Monday, so the reporting period is for Monday, June 16, through Sunday, June 22, while KPop was released on Friday, June 20.)

KPop is now the best-performing animated film on the platform since the week of March 10-16, when the IP-based Spongebob spinoff Plankton: The Movie, earned 13.4 million views and 19.6 million viewing hours in its second week on the platform. That film debuted at #1 with 14.3 million views and and 21 million viewing hours in its first three days.

The streamer has had a slow start to original animation in the first half of 2025. Netflix’s previous animation release, the Korean film Lost in Starlight, which came out last month, has not made any of the streamer’s Top 10 global lists to date.

Its two other feature animation releases in 2025 — The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep and Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl — never surpassed 5 million views during any week.

The streamer is still releasing at least three animated features before the end of the year: Fixed (August 13), In Your Dreams (November 14), and The Twits (fall 2025).
