‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Beats Out ‘Poop Cruise’ To Top Netflix’s Most-Watched Movies List
KPop Demon Hunters, the Sony Pictures Animation production distributed by Netflix, has continued its strong performance in its second week on the platform, climbing to No. 1 globally among English-language movies and narrowly edging out the new documentary feature “Trainwreck: Poop Cruise.”
In its second week (June 23–29), the musical action feature directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans drew 24.2 million views and 40.3 million viewing hours, more than doubling its debut figures of 9.2 million views and 15.4 million hours from the first three days of release.
The film’s soundtrack is also proving to be a breakout hit. The KPop Demon Hunters Soundtrack, featuring TWICE’s “TAKEDOWN,” debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200, making it the highest-debuting soundtrack of 2025 and the first to break into the top 10 this year, with 31,000 equivalent album units.
On Spotify’s Daily Top Songs Global chart (as of June 28), multiple tracks from the film made strong showings: “Golden” – No. 7; “Your Idol” – No. 11; “Soda Pop” – No. 17; “How It’s Done” – No. 19; “Free” – No. 34; “What It Sounds Like” – No. 39; “Take Down” – No. 57; TWICE’s version of “Take Down” – No. 100.
The film’s success marks a much-needed win for Netflix’s original animation slate in 2025. Prior to KPop Demon Hunters, its only other animated release this year, the Korean sci-fi romance Lost in Starlight, failed to chart on any of the streamer’s global Top 10 lists. Other feature releases from the second half of 2024, including The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep and Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, also failed to surpass 5 million weekly views.
That said, there is plenty to be optimistic about on the horizon. Netflix will release at least three more animated films in 2025, including Genndy Tartakovsky’s hand-drawn adult comedy Fixed (August 13), Alex Woo’s CG family feature In Your Dreams (November 14), and Phil Johnston’s The Twits (fall 2025), the first animated adaptation of the Roald Dahl book and one of several Netflix projects based on the iconic author’s work.
