The creators behind India’s hit animated mythology series The Legend of Hanuman are developing a new feature inspired by Shiva, with plans for a worldwide theatrical release.
Graphic India and studio co-founder Sharad Devarajan are partnering with Sadhguru, the prominent Indian spiritual leader and founder of the Isha Foundation, on Shiva: The Adiyogi, an animated epic exploring the origins of yoga through the story of Shiva as the first yogi and teacher. It marks Sadhguru’s first collaboration on an animated feature of this scale.

Devarajan co-created The Legend of Hanuman, which has become one of India’s most successful animated mythology franchises. His other credits include the animated series Baahubali: The Lost Legends and Baahubali: Crown of Blood, as well as Pavitr Prabhakar, Marvel’s Indian Spider-Man from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
Based on a story by Sadhguru and Devarajan, Shiva: The Adiyogi will follow its title character through love, loss, wrath, and his eventual decision to share yogic knowledge with humanity. The story will encompass major figures and events associated with Shiva, including the grief-born warrior Veerabhadra and the seven seekers who receive his teachings at Kanti Sarovar.
“In the Yogic culture, Shiva is not seen as a god. For us, Shiva is the Adiyogi, the first Yogi, and the Adiguru, the first Guru,” Sadhguru said in a releasse.
Devarajan will write and produce the film, with Graphic India leading production. Jeevan J. Kang and Subrah S. Iyar are executive producers, while Navin Miranda and Nayana Bijli will co-produce. No release date has been announced.
