AMC Network’s horror streaming service Shudder has acquired rights to Mad God, the horror stop-motion feature from visual effects legend Phil Tippett.
Tippett, who contributed vfx to iconic films like Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Robocop, and Starship Troopers, began working on this personal feature back in the 1980s, during a lull in his schedule following Robocop 2. After completing a few test shots, he abandoned the project to focus on Jurassic Park.
Decades later, Tippett was encouraged by artists at his studio to restart production on Mad God. It would take him another decade to finish the film, using a volunteer crew of employees that he trained in stop motion. Mad God premiered last year at the Locarno Film Festival, and has since screened at other festivals including Edinburg, Fantasia, and Sitges.
