Spirited Away Spirited Away

Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away is returning to U.S. theaters this month for a five-day run to celebrate the Studio Ghibli classic’s 25th anniversary.

GKIDS and Fathom Entertainment will screen the film nationwide October 17-21 as the closing title of Studio Ghibli Fest 2026. Screenings will be offered in both the original Japanese with English subtitles and the English-language dub. Each presentation will also include a post-film clip from the bonus featurette Nippon Television Special.

Released in Japan in 2001, Spirited Away follows 10-year-old Chihiro, who becomes trapped in a supernatural world after her parents are mysteriously transformed. To save them and return home, she takes a job at a bathhouse serving spirits under the control of the witch Yubaba.

The film became a major international success and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2003, making Miyazaki the first Japanese filmmaker to win the category.

Tickets for the anniversary screenings are on sale now through participating theaters, GKIDS’ Ghibli Fest, and Fathom Entertainment.
