Animator Andreas Deja will be the subject of a show at the Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco. The exhibit, announced today, is called “Deja View: The Art of Andreas Deja.”

Deja needs little introduction to anyone who is the least familiar with contemporary Disney animation. An iconic figure of 1990s Disney animation, Deja was the supervising animator of Gaston in Beauty and the Beast, Jafar in Aladdin, Scar in The Lion King, and the titular character in Hercules, to name just a few memorable performances.

Since Deja left Disney in 2011, he has been working on a hand-drawn short of his own, Mushka, that he describes as a “story of love and sacrifice set in Russia.” Development artwork from that film will be on display at the show, as will examples of Deja’s personal drawings and steel wire sculptures.

“Deja View” will be on display from March 23 through October 4 in the museum’s Theater Gallery. A few of the pieces that will be on display can be seen below.
