Minno, Slingshot Productions, Sunrise Animation Studios, and Angel Studios will release Young David, a new series of animated shorts based on the Biblical character David, on November 10.

The film’s PR materials boast: “Rarely does this level of feature-film animation quality come to Christian kids’ content,” and it’s hard to disagree. The Young David trailer looks as sharp as any faith-based movie we’ve seen and sets a new standard for the genre.

What we know about Young David:

  • Young David is a series of five, five-minute shorts which serve as prequels to the full-length animated feature David, which will be released in 2025 by Slingshot Productions in partnership with Angel Studios.
  • Minno and Slingshot Productions led the development of the series, which will be uploaded to both the Minno and Angel Studio streaming platforms. The first short, “Warrior,” will debut on November 10, with a new short released each month for five months. Minno also created a companion illustrated book series for each of the show’s chapters.
  • “Warrior” is directed by Brent Dawes and Phil Cunningham. The long-time colleagues previously helmed Sunrise’s film and series franchise Jungle Beat, which has amassed more than 10.9 million subscribers on Youtube.
  • The official synopsis for “Warrior” reads: “While tending his flock, David finds entertainment by creating imaginary battles. But the pretend games take an unexpected turn when a lion appears, fixating its gaze on Tali, David’s beloved lamb.”
  • According to Cunningham: “What I really love about this episode is that it shows us that being a warrior is not about ego, it’s not about being macho. It’s about showing that characteristic at a time that it needs to come out. When it’s needed to defend the helpless or to help defend those who can’t defend themselves.”
  • Dawes added: “For me, this episode really reminded me of some moments in my own life. It reminded me and showed me that despite going through something challenging, there can still be so much positivity which comes out of overcoming that challenge.”
