Gameoverse Gameoverse

Aussie super-indie Glitch Productions is partnering with veteran digital-first animator and director Ross O’Donovan on a full-series release for Gameoverse, a 2D animated project that has been in independent development for more than a decade. The pilot episode is scheduled to premiere in May of this year, with the full series to follow.

O’Donovan, best known online as RubberRoss, is collaborating with writer Arin Hanson, co-founder of Game Grumps, on the series, which Glitch Productions says it will release in its entirety. A trailer is now available on Glitch Productions’ YouTube channel and embedded here:

Described by the creators as a show about video game worlds “horrifically exploding,” Gameoverse centers on a premise where saving reality requires helping the villain stop the hero, or face total annihilation. The series is animated in 2D, a format that O’Donovan has said was non-negotiable for the project.

The show’s voice cast blends animation veterans and online personalities, including Erica Lindbeck (Helluva Boss, Smiling Friends), JSchlatt, Chris Sabat (Dragon Ball Z), Hanson, Elsie Lovelock (Hazbin Hotel, Murder Drones), and Michael Cusack. Music is being composed by Grant Kirkhope (Banjo-Kazooie, GoldenEye 007) and Jake Kaufman (Shovel Knight, Shantae).

In the Glitch partnership announcement, O’Donovan explained how the relationship came to be, and why the studio is the right fit:

In 2015 I started putting together the plans for what would be Gameoverse. Over those 11 years I put together many versions of what this show could be. Luckily, Kevin and Luke [Lerdwichagul] while visiting LA managed to see one of them in 2017. There were many times we spoke about the potential of working together, but it always came down to one thing. This had to be a 2D show. When Glitch approached me again about doing this show with them and it being 2D, it was a no brainer. I decided to start from scratch with my writing partner and friend, Arin Hanson. Thanks to Glitch, what we’ve made is truly the greatest version of this show that we could’ve ever conceived. I feel incredibly privileged to be able to finally share it with the world and get to create amazing animation with my hugely talented team. I’ve been a part of the online animation scene for over two decades now and never could I have imagined my dream project finding a better home than with Glitch. Thank you to everyone who supported me and got me to this point. I hope you enjoy your adventures in the Gameoverse

Glitch Productions CEO Kevin Lerdwichagul framed the collaboration as a natural fit with the company’s indie animation mission, noting that Glitch first encountered an early Gameoverse animatic in 2017.

Partnering with Ross O’Donovan to bring their full creative vision for Gameoverse is an exciting next-step for Glitch in our mission to uplift and showcase the creative strength of indie animation. Luke and I first saw an early animatic of Gameoverse back in 2017, and were immediately struck by its world-building, creativity and depth. So, when the chance to collaborate on it came up, there was zero hesitation. There is a unique parallel in the way Ross and Glitch have forged our paths within the indie animation space, and we’re proud to showcase this bold, poignant series to our shared communities. With the release of Gameoverse’s pilot in May 2026, this is Glitch doubling down on our commitment to amplifying passionate indie projects to both our dedicated fanbase and new audiences

Glitch Productions, based in Sydney, has built its reputation on self-funded, creator-driven animation, with YouTube-first hits including The Amazing Digital Circus, Murder Drones, and The Gaslight DistrictGameoverse is the studio’s latest project, following last year’s hugely successful launch of Dana Terrace’s Knights of Guinnevere and the recent announcement that it is teaming up with Lackadaisy co-creators Tracy J. Butler and Fable Siegel to produce a full animated series based on the acclaimed webcomic and the viral 2023 pilot.
