Knights of Guinevere Knights of Guinevere

Sydney-based indie studio Glitch Productions has another hit with its first 2D animated production, a pilot episode for Knights of Guinevere from The Owl House creator Dana Terrace, John Bailey Owens, and Zach Marcus. The episode has already crossed 8 million views in its first two days on YouTube.

The pilot, launched on September 19, marks the studio’s first foray outside its established 3D pipeline, furthering its reach into adult-aimed, darker, psychologically charged storytelling, following the brilliant mind trip that is Gooseworx’s The Amazing Digital Circus.

The story follows Andi and Frankie, two android engineers whose lives are upended after discovering a broken Princess Guinevere android in the shadows of Park Planet, a planet-spanning amusement park that hides disturbing secrets beneath its dazzling exterior.

Terrace describes the project as a deeply personal creative leap:

Knights of Guinevere is a passion project that me, Zach, and John have the privilege to make with some of the BEST artists, animators, musicians, and production crew we know. And thank you, Glitch, for reaching out in the first place and making ALL this possible. There is no universe where this could’ve been made at any other studio. Thank you for trusting us to do what we know how to do: make dope shit!

For Glitch, the pilot is more than just a new series; it’s a statement about the studio’s evolving ambitions. Kevin Lerdwichagul, Glitch co-founder and series producer, with brother Luke Lerdwichagul, added:

Knights of Guinevere represents an exciting new chapter for Glitch as we expand into 2D animation for the first time. Our mission has always been to tell bold, emotionally resonant stories that sit in the underserved space between kids’ cartoons and adult comedies, and this pilot perfectly embodies that ethos. We’re thrilled to collaborate with visionary storytellers like Dana Terrace, Zach Marcus, and John Bailey Owens to bring this dark, psychological tale to life and to share it directly with everyone around the world.

Founded in 2019, Glitch Productions has built a reputation for self-funded, fandom-driven animation. The studio is best known for digital-first CG hits, including The Amazing Digital Circus, Murder Drones, and The Gaslight District, drawing in more than 16 million YouTube subscribers.

The company is also changing the indie animation distribution game. One year ago, Glitch struck a licensing deal with Netflix to stream its breakout YouTube hit The Amazing Digital Circus. The agreement, which sees episodes debut on Netflix the same day they premiere on Glitch’s YouTube channel, is a rare case of a streamer partnering with an independent studio and not demanding IP ownership or exclusivity. By retaining rights and continuing to prioritize YouTube as its first platform, Glitch is redefining how indie animation can thrive globally, proving that creator-driven studios can reach mainstream audiences while maintaining their independence.

With Knights of Guinevere, the studio is signaling its willingness to experiment with form and genre. The pilot’s influences include anime and surrealist works such as Neon Genesis Evangelion, Paprika, and Scavengers Reign.

For now, Glitch is keeping the future of Knights of Guinevere open-ended, but the pilot’s release underscores the studio’s intent to keep pushing boundaries, and we wouldn’t be at all surprised to see several more episodes announced soon.
