Court Intrigue And Body Swaps In Crunchyroll’s ‘I Am An Inept Villainess’ Trailer
Toho Global and Crunchyroll have released the first trailer for Though I Am an Inept Villainess, offering an early look at the courtly fantasy ahead of its July debut.
The series adaptation is directed by Mitsue Yamasaki (Attack on Titan, Zenshu), with series composition by Yoshiko Nakamura and character designs by Ai Kikuchi. Animation is being handled by Doga Kobo, with music from Yukari Hashimoto.
Adapted from the light novel by Satsuki Nakamura, the series centers on Kou Reirin, a noblewoman who suddenly finds herself inhabiting the body of a disgraced villainess. Set within an imperial court where rival clans vie to produce the next empress, the story leans into political intrigue, identity swaps, and survival drama.
The property already has a good deal of buzz around it after taking top honors in the light novel category at the 2023 Everyone’s Choice Electronic Comic Awards and ranking highly in BookLive’s annual listings. Between the novels and manga, more than four million copies have already been sold.
Voice cast additions include Makoto Furukawa and Yuichiro Umehara, joining leads Manaka Iwami and Natsumi Kawaida.
