SDCC 2026 Weekend Roundup: ‘Futurama’ Specials, Fan-Favorite Holiday Episodes, And ‘American Dad!’ No. 400

The weekend’s animation panels at San Diego Comic-Con delivered three extended Futurama specials, new holiday stories from Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers, and previews of upcoming episodes from American Dad! and The Simpsons.

Most of the news arrived Saturday. Sunday’s smaller animation lineup focused largely on retrospectives, fandom discussions, and voice-acting panels rather than new releases or production announcements, but here’s a non-inclusive look at some of the weekend’s top animation-related highlights from SDCC 2026.

Futurama Gets Three Extended Specials

Hulu ordered three extended-length Futurama specials, the first of which will be a Christmas story arriving in 2027. Details about the other two have not yet been announced.

The streamer also released the trailer for its upcoming fourteenth season, featuring space pirates, lab-grown meat, scams, time travel, and the return of Dr. Zoidberg’s lost love.

Season 14 premieres August 3 on Hulu with two episodes, followed by new installments each Monday after that.

Family Guy Sets Halloween And Christmas Specials

Family Guy will return to Hulu with two streaming-exclusive holiday specials later this year.

In “Happy Hell-o-ween,” Brian and Stewie are sent to Hell to answer for 24 seasons of bad behavior and somehow end up running the place. “The Peter Clause” follows Peter and his friends as they compete to become Quahog’s official Santa.

Both specials will stream on Hulu in the U.S. The show’s 25th season will air on Fox starting next year.

Bob’s Burgers Builds A Christmas Snow Fort

Bob’s Burgers is also getting a Hulu-exclusive holiday short, “On the Fort Day of Christmas.”

Announced by creator Loren Bouchard during Saturday’s panel, the short finds the Belcher children using a record-breaking Christmas snowstorm to construct a record-breaking snow fort.

It will premiere on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ in most international markets during the holiday season. Like Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers will return for season 17 in 2027.

American Dad! Sets Its 400th Episode

American Dad! will air its 400th episode on September 13 as part of the conclusion to its current season. The milestone installment will feature an anthology format.

Saturday’s panel also included an extended preview of the 2027 season, teasing Klaus making a horror film, Jeff getting a bachelor party, Roger becoming RoboCop, Stan fighting himself, returning characters, and a musical episode.

The Simpsons Previews “Yellow Mirror”

The Simpsons offered Comic-Con attendees an early look at “Yellow Mirror,” a two-part Disney+ exclusive inspired by Netflix’s popular anthology series of a similar name. How timely.

Written by Carolyn Omine and Kai Omine and directed by Matthew Faughnan, “Yellow Mirror” will premiere August 26 on Disney+.
