Skibidi Toilet Launches New Era Without Its Creator As Fan Animators Take Creative Control

Invisible Narratives has named the creative team that will steer future episodes of Skibidi Toilet, while confirming to Cartoon Brew that the viral series’ creator, Alexey Gerasimov, is not currently involved in their development or production.

Gerasimov, better known online as DaFuq!?Boom, launched Skibidi Toilet in 2023 and built the animated series into one of YouTube’s biggest phenomena. At the peak of its popularity, Invisible Narratives acquired control of the property and the DaFuq!?Boom channel, which has since been renamed Skibidi.

The company says Gerasimov’s original vision will remain “foundational” to the series and that he still holds an executive producer title. However, the newly announced team will now act as what Invisible Narratives describes as the franchise’s “creative braintrust.”

In a statement provided to Cartoon Brew, a spokesperson for Invisible Narratives explained Gerasimov’s current status and the role of the new team:

Alexey created Skibidi Toilet, and his original vision remains foundational to the series. As Alexey announced last October, he stepped into an Executive Producer role alongside a broader creative team as the series expanded. Alexey is not currently participating in the development or production of new Skibidi Toilet YouTube episodes. Our existing agreement remains in effect, and the framework remains in place for Alexey to participate in the YouTube series in the future.

The newly announced creator team will serve as the creative braintrust for the next era of Skibidi Toilet, leading the development and production of future YouTube episodes. They are creators who know this world, understand the community around it, and bring distinct creative perspectives to the work. We have real confidence in what they are building together. Invisible Narratives will continue to support the team and bring additional creative talent into the franchise as it evolves.

The four-person team is composed largely of young, self-taught artists who built audiences by creating their own work within the wider Skibidi Toilet community:

• Virlance, creator of the fan series The Skibidi Wars and original series Voidstorm, will serve as showrunner and animator. His channel has more than 2.8 million subscribers and close to 650 million views. He will oversee the show’s creative and production pipeline while continuing to work directly on its animation and design.
• Strider has been named animation director and sound designer. Inspired by Skibidi Toilet, he taught himself animation and grew his fan channel to more than one million subscribers. Two years later, he animated Episode 80 of the official series. In his expanded role, he will also contribute to compositing, character design, and story.
• FScript, a decade-long animation vet, will serve as producer and technical director, leading environment development and helping shape the series’ production pipeline.
• Achi, also self-taught, will serve as lead story editor and animator. Just 18 years old, he will oversee the show’s lore and scripts while contributing to animation, modeling, visual effects, and production.

The announcement carries particular weight given the continuing controversy surrounding Gerasimov’s relationship with Invisible Narratives. As we reported in June, Gerasimov assigned the principal copyrights and trademarks for Skibidi Toilet to the company, including the exclusive right to operate his enormously popular YouTube channel.

That arrangement became a major point of concern among fans as Gerasimov’s visible participation declined. Leaked messages presented by critics of Invisible Narratives appeared to show the animator expressing frustration with his situation, while fan campaigns including #BringBoomBack and Let Boom Speak questioned whether he could discuss the agreement publicly. Invisible Narratives has disputed several of the allegations surrounding the partnership and maintains that Gerasimov continues to benefit from the franchise.

Because the agreement itself has never been made public, its precise conditions remain unknown. Invisible Narratives’ new statement makes it clearer than before that the artist who created and previously animated the official series is currently sitting out its production.

The company says its agreement with Gerasimov remains active, leaving open the possibility that he could return to the YouTube series. For now, creators who began as members of the fan community built around his work will lead future episodes.
