‘Stranger Things: Tales From ’85’ Trailer Drops As Netflix Plans A Rare Theatrical Debut

Netflix has dropped the first full trailer for Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, an animated spinoff of its biggest original IP that will premiere on April 23.

Developed by showrunner Eric Robles and animated by Flying Bark, the 10 x 30-minute series trades live-action scares for a vibrant, stylized take on the Upside Down.

Set during a snowy 1985, the story finds Eleven and the gang easing back into D&D and winter hijinks, until something ominous begins to surface beneath the ice. Executive producers Matt and Ross Duffer, Hilary Leavitt, Shawn Levy, and Dan Cohen steer this new chapter, with a fresh voice cast stepping into familiar roles.

Netflix’s rollout makes it clear the streamer has a lot of faith in Tales From ’85. The first two episodes will debut in select theaters ahead of the streaming launch, an exceptionally rare move for an animated TV series, especially a Netflix Original.
