Warrior Cats Warrior Cats

The long-gestating animated adaptation of Warrior Cats scored a major coup today as Coolabi Group and Tencent Video revealed that the officially licensed series adaptation of the massively popular fantasy book franchise has entered production, with a creative team attached that immediately elevates the project.

Emmy-winning writer and producer A.C. Bradley, best known as the head writer of Marvel’s What If…? as well as Ms. Marvel and Dreamworks’ Trollhunters, will serve as showrunner. Bradley has become one of the most recognizable genre-animation leads working in television, particularly for balancing serialized storytelling with large-scale fantasy and sci-fi worlds.

Directing duties will be handled by Pixar vet and Emmy-winning filmmaker Rodrigo Blaas and his Madrid-based El Guiri Studios. Blaas spent years at Pixar working on films including Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, and Wall-E before moving into directing. More recently, he helmed “Sith” for Star Wars: Visions, widely regarded as one of the anthology’s standout shorts for its singular aesthetic and cinematic ambition.

Animation production is being handled by Original Force (Ne Zha 2, Tales of Arcadia) on behalf of Tencent Video.

Together, the Bradley-Blaas pairing suggests Tencent and Coolabi are aiming well beyond a standard children’s fantasy adaptation with this project.

Based on the bestselling Erin Hunter novels, Warrior Cats follows rival clans of wild cats living in a heavily mythologized forest world. The franchise has sold more than 90 million books worldwide and remained a fixture on the New York Times bestseller list for two decades.

According to the announcement, the series will adapt Warrior Cats: The Prophecies Begin, the first arc in the long-running saga. Tencent Video plans to debut the series across China and Southeast Asia in 2028.
