Adding movement to photographs is a very common technique nowadays, but Bennie Melwin’s Putin Depardieu Love Story pushes the technique one step further than most, resulting in some fantastically creepy and funny animation:

Melwin, who spent five months making the film, explained his process in the comments of the YouTube video:

This was all done in CS4 without any additional plugins…I used different tools to deform the layers to create an illusion of perspective. The arms usually are just parented to the body. If you need to make great distortions you can always track the layer in a different composition (just add some colored dots that you then remove), and then add the arm, head or whatever you need to place.
