Monsoon Blue Monsoon Blue

In Monsoon Blue, directors Jay Hiukit Wong and Ellis Kayin Chan take us on a surreal, rain-soaked descent into memory, identity, and metamorphosis.

Having wrapped up a festival run that included stops at top international festivals, including Sitges, Neuchâtel, and Kaboom, the short is now available online.

Set in a crumbling Hong Kong pet fish shop, the film follows Summer, a woman suffocating under the weight of forgotten dreams and bagged goldfish. When the monsoon arrives, so too does a flood of suppressed memory, and with it, a quiet, spiritual upheaval.

Equal parts magical realism and psychological allegory, Monsoon Blue uses vivid, shape-shifting animation and richly layered sound design (best experienced with headphones) to explore the soul’s yearning to return to its unburdened origins. The rain doesn’t just fall — it thinks, it remembers, it breaks down boundaries.
