Lang joins Cartoon Brew from Variety, where for the last seven years, he covered film and tv industry news from around the world and contributed to over 1,500 pieces.

Lang is fluent in Spanish, and much of his earlier coverage was centered around the entertainment industries in Latin America and Spain. He was also a specialist in event-based reporting, covering – often in person – festivals and markets such as San Sebastian, Guadalajara, Series Mania, and many others in Europe and Latin America. His favorites among them, however, were the animation festivals including Annecy, 3D Wire (now Weird Market), and Animayo.

“Cartoon Brew has been a reference for me since I first started covering animation, and I couldn’t be happier to join the team that Amid has put together,” Lang said in a statement. “The site’s editorial line and uncompromising stance which puts artists first aligns closely with my own beliefs, and I’m excited to see what I can add to the mix.”

“I’ve admired Jamie’s writing for years,” added Cartoon Brew publisher Amid Amid. “He has a sharp eye for getting the facts right, a commitment to telling the timely and important stories that affect our community, and unbridled passion for the animation art form. Cartoon Brew has experienced rapid growth over the last year, and I’m confident that Jamie has the leadership skills to guide the site into a new era of expansion as we aim to increase our coverage of the rapidly-growing animation world.”

Prior to his journalism career, Lang studied anthropology and archaeology at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, graduating in 2013. He studied and taught anthropology and archaeology at several field schools across mainland Spain and on the Balearic Islands before settling in Madrid.

Lang succeeds Amidi, who has been editor in chief since the site’s original conception as a blog in 2004. Amidi will transition to editor at large and will also continue in the role of publisher.

Cartoon Brew had record-breaking traffic in February 2022, the best month ever in the history of the site, smashing site records for both the most pageviews and most unique visitors.
