Blink Industries Boards Ricky Gervais’ Netflix Animated Comedy ‘Alley Cats’
Netflix has greenlit Alley Cats, a new adult animated comedy series created by Emmy and BAFTA-winner Ricky Gervais, set to debut on the platform next year.
The six-part series, featuring short-form 15-minute episodes, follows a band of feral British cats navigating companionship and the absurdities of everyday life.
Gervais, who directs alongside Elliot Dear, voices the series’ lead feline: “a fat, lazy, rude, opinionated creature with fangs,” as he describes, adding with his trademark self-deprecation, “so quite a stretch.”
Produced at U.K.-based Blink Industries (Dead End: Paranormal Park, Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared), the series features 2D animation with production design by Tang Heng (Kung Fu Panda). Gervais executive produces through Derek Productions alongside Steven Hamilton Shaw (Gnomeo & Juliet).
The voice cast reunites frequent Gervais collaborators Tom Basden, Andrew Brooke, David Earl, Kerry Godliman, Jo Hartley, Diane Morgan, as well as Natalie Cassidy and Tony Way.
