Journey Journey

Disney+ has greenlit Journey (working title), a new animated fantasy series from Disney Kids & Family and Higher Ground, the production company founded by Barack and Michelle Obama.

The series was created by Matt Munn, whose credits include Ice Age: Collision Course and Spies in Disguise. Munn will executive produce alongside Peabody Award winner Steve Loter, known for Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur and Kim Possible. Jessie Dicovitsky serves as executive producer for Higher Ground. Canada’s Icon Creative Studio will produce in association with Disney Television Animation.

Currently in production, the music-driven series follows a young girl named Journey, who ventures beyond the protective walls of her city after its failing energy shield threatens her community. Her quest leads her into forbidden lands, where she uncovers the truth behind her father’s disappearance and discovers magical abilities that could save her people.

Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family, said in a release:

Journey is an epic adventure anchored by a remarkable young heroine whose courage inspires those around her. At its core, it’s a story about resilience, self-discovery, and the power of believing in something bigger than yourself — the kind of universal themes that have defined Disney stories for generations.
