Netflix Unveils Trailer And Release Dates For Upcoming Trio Of Animated Dr. Seuss Titles
Netflix is expanding its lineup of preschool and family animation with three new Dr. Seuss adaptations rolling out this fall. The streamer debuted a new multi-title trailer this morning, offering first looks and premiere dates for Dr. Seuss’s Red Fish, Blue Fish, Dr. Seuss’s Horton!, and Dr. Seuss’s The Sneetches.
First up is Red Fish, Blue Fish, launching September 8. A preschool comedy based on the classic Seuss title, the series follows an odd-couple pair of fish as they explore opposites and absurdities. The show is produced by Atomic Cartoons, with Becky Friedman as showrunner and Rob Cantor on songs.
On October 6, Netflix will debut Dr. Seuss’s Horton!, a new take on the iconic elephant, reimagined here as a younger version of the character on adventures with his best friend, Samson. Brown Bag Films handles animation, with Ethan Monaghan voicing Horton.
Closing out the slate is The Sneetches, a 45-minute special arriving November 3. The adaptation centers on two Sneetches—one with stars, one without—who discover the power of friendship and equality. Brown Bag Films also animates the special, directed by Bronagh O’Hanlon.
All three projects were developed by Dustin Ferrer, with music contributions from Cantor and composers Vidjay Beerepoot and Gregory Nicolett. We got a quick sneak peek at each title in Annecy, and they look fantastic. The animation is sharp, miles ahead of a lot of preschool stuff that kids are watching today.
The original books remain among Seuss’s bestsellers: One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish has sold over 20 million copies, The Sneetches over 3 million, and Horton titles a combined 8 million.
Netflix is promoting the releases with a “Hello School!” playlist for young viewers, featuring early learning episodes and a preview from Red Fish, Blue Fish.
All titles are produced in partnership with Dr. Seuss Enterprises, whose profits support education, health, science, animal conservation, and the arts.
