PGS Entertainment, TF1 Team With NBA Star Victor Wembanyama On ‘Alien Dunk’ Franchise
Fresh off a cameo appearance in the new season of Futurama, Victor Wembanyama is stepping into another sci-fi animated universe, this time as the star of his own series.
The San Antonio Spurs’ former number one pick, nicknamed “the alien,” is fronting Alien Dunk, a new animated project developed by PGS Entertainment and unveiled today by Variety.
The series is designed as a transmedia property, with plans for a full-scale franchise spanning webtoons, publishing, video games, interactive experiences, and fan engagement through online platforms.
France’s leading commercial network TF1 has already committed to the project, with Stim Studio handling animation. Known for its work on The Wild Robot, Garfield, The Amazing Maurice, and Tom & Jerry (2021), the studio will bring Wembanyama’s likeness to life using motion capture sessions to replicate his signature movements and unique athletic style.
Alien Dunk follows Victor, his sister Eve, and a crew of unconventional alien teammates as they enter the Starball League, a galactic take on basketball where competition becomes the key to preserving peace in the universe (Comparisons will surely be drawn to Sony’s upcoming Steph Curry-produced basketball-based feature Goat). Blending comedy, science fiction, and sports, the series aims to reach both animation fans and basketball aficionados.
Created by Rémi Guérin, Christophe Fossard, and Audrey-Anne Bazard, the show looks to leverage Wembanyama’s global recognition and reputation as a once-in-a-generation athlete.
TF1 will oversee licensing in France, while PGS is preparing to present the project internationally.
