Adult Swim has unveiled the official trailer for its upcoming stop-motion show Women Wearing Shoulder Pads, the company’s first fully Spanish-language animated series.

Created by Gonzalo Cordova (Tuca & Bertie, Adam Ruins Everything) and produced by Mexico City’s Cinema Fantasma, known for Frankelda’s Book of Spooks, the series premieres August 17 across Max and Adult Swim’s midnight programming block.

Set in 1980s Ecuador, the show centers on Marioneta, a wealthy Spanish woman navigating life, business, and media in a neon-colored Quito, alongside a dynamic all-female cast. The trailer showcases Cinema Fantasma’s signature handcrafted aesthetic, offering a blend of absurdist humor, Almodóvar-like melodrama, and surprising emotional depth.

Women Wearing Shoulder Pads was the beneficiary of a prestigious Work in Progress presentation at last month’s Annecy Festival.

Women Wearing Shoulder Pads signals a new direction for Adult Swim, expanding into multilingual, international storytelling while maintaining its irreverent brand voice. For global audiences and industry observers alike, the series promises a fresh narrative style backed by strong visual design and cross-platform distribution, making its August debut one to look out for.
