Barcelona, Spain-based Nomada Studio is getting ready to release its first game, a 2d-animated platformer called Gris.

The game’s illustrative watercolor and ink style was created by Conrad Roset who is a partner in Nomada.

Here’s how Nomada describes the game:

Gris is a hopeful young girl lost in her own world, dealing with a painful experience in her life. Her journey through sorrow is manifested in her dress, which grants new abilities to better navigate her faded reality. As the story unfolds, Gris will grow emotionally and see her world in a different way, revealing new paths to explore using her new abilities.

Nomada makes clear that Gris is designed to be more of a “narrative experience” than game; the girl character can’t die in the game, and though there’s conflict, there aren’t conventional enemies to fight. Early reviews of the gameplay have been positive.

Gris will be published by Devolver Digital for PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch this December.
