Earthworm Jim Creator Doug TenNapel Is Crowdfunding Armikrog, A Stop Motion Game

Doug TenNapel, creator of games like Earthworm Jim and The Neverhood and the TV series Catscratch, is crowdfunding a new clay-animated stop motion game called Armikrog. He’s working with Mike Dietz and Ed Schofield of Pencil Test Studios, his animation collaborators on earlier games, to create a point-and-click adventure game for PC, Mac OSX and Linux.

In the game, you control the adventures of “a space explorer named Tommynaut and his blind alien, talking dog named Beak-Beak [who] crash land on a weird planet and end up locked in a mysterious fortress called Armikrog.” TenNapel’s Kickstarter goal is to raise $900,000 in 30 days, and the production has already received over $11,000 in a little over one hour of campaign time.

I funded Doug’s sketchbook Kickstarter and couldn’t be happier. His communication with supporters was consistent but not too frequent. He really seamed to be engaged with his backers’ needs, and the product was absolutely top-notch.

Amid, thanks for helping to spread the word. I can’t tell you how I excited we are about this game… I find myself smiling while I animate. Kickstarter is a great platform to go directly to our fans, show them what we want to make and see if they want it. So far the support from the fans has been phenomenal!

I want to ask, does Doug TenNapel still hate Earthworm Jim to this day?

I’m totally confident in their budgeting, game design, and animation expertise (my biggest surprise was the quality of that); I just wish the crowd wasn’t funding such a large portion of the game. Still, I could hardly be more excited for a The Neverhood/Skullmonkeys-style game. Taylor’s back, too.

  • OtherDan

Sweet! I hope they get the funding.

The Neverhood is still one of the most charming and entertaining games out there. I get lost in the great animation and forget it’s a game.

Until now I did not know this is the man behind Catscratch. I remember a game I used to play back in the day called Boom Bots developed by Neverhood. It even featured Clayman as a playable fighter. Mad talent, right here

This looks so cool! I love the idea of a non-digital/cg game. Never heard of Neverhood, so it’s cool looking that up as well. Definitely supporting this Kickstarter.

Aw, “The Neverhood” is awesome. If your backing this up, I totally recommend finding a copy and playing it so you can get an idea what Doug Tennapel’s games are like.
