Freddy the 13th Freddy the 13th

Paramount Animation has announced Freddy the 13th, a new animated feature based on Yehudi Mercado’s graphic novel of the same name. The project will be directed by genre maestro Dan Trachtenberg, best known for Predator: Killer Of Killers, Prey and 10 Cloverfield Lane, with Mercado serving as co-director.

The film follows a family vacation that takes a supernatural turn when the well-meaning Uncle Freddy accidentally kills the Boogeyman and inherits his powers. According to Paramount, the feature aims to blend horror-inspired storytelling with family-friendly comedy, offering PG-rated scares and laughs for audiences of all ages.

Trachtenberg and producer Ben Rosenblatt are producing the film. The announcement was accompanied by an Instagram post from both Trachtenberg and Mercado, confirming their involvement in the project.

The feature continues Paramount Animation’s recent push into original concepts alongside established intellectual property. Under president Jennifer Dodge, the division has assembled a varied slate that includes an animated feature inspired by the television competition series Survivor, Robert Rodriguez’s holiday-themed project The Naughty List, and the upcoming PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie, which hits theaters on August 14, 2026.
