JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run

Warner Bros. Japan has shared the first trailer for Steel Ball Run, the next installment in the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure franchise, premiering on Netflix worldwide next year. (It’s not subbed yet, so you’ll need to pop on YouTube’s captions)

The trailer was revealed at a special event in Tokyo today, alongside a teaser trailer, character visuals, and casting details.

Set in 1890 America, Steel Ball Run follows former prodigy jockey Johnny Joestar, who, after a life-altering accident, enters a grueling transcontinental horse race with the enigmatic outlaw Gyro Zeppeli. Their partnership places them against rivals, including the ruthless Diego Brando, in a competition spanning 4,000 miles with a staggering $50 million prize at stake.

The voice cast includes Shogo Sakata as Johnny Joestar, Yohei Azakami as Gyro Zeppeli, Kaito Ishikawa as Diego Brando, Rie Takahashi as Lucy Steel, and Kenta Miyake as Steven Steel.

Steel Ball Run Characters

The anime will be helmed by directors Yasuhiro Kimura and Hideya Takahashi (Golden Wind), with Toshiyuki Kato as series director and longtime JoJo writer Yasuko Kobayashi overseeing series composition. Character designs are by Daisuke Tsumagari, music by franchise composer Yugo Kanno, and animation by david production.

A new English-language portal for the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure franchise also went live today, signaling a strong international push for what is considered one of the manga’s most ambitious arcs. It’s easy to see why, given the franchises already overwhelming popularity in the West, as well as a larger rise in the mainstream popularity of other top anime franchises.
