Indie kids and family producer Studio 100 Media has acquired a stake in Spanish animation company 3 Doubles Producciones.

It has been a big year for 3 Doubles. The company’s latest feature, Inspector Sun and the Curse of the Black Widow, will hit U.S. theaters later this month. Earlier this summer, Viva Kids acquired a minority stake of its own in the Spanish studio.

Here’s what we know about the deal Studio 100 deal:

  • Munich-based Studio 100 Media’s catalog includes several successful European franchises such as Mia and Me, Heidi, Vic the Viking, and 100% Wolf. The organization also owns and operates Studio Isar Animation.
  • Based in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, an increasingly important hot spot for European animation production, 3 Doubles handles both 2d and cg animation. It was founded in 2017 by Darío Sánchez, a long-time veteran of the animation and video game industries whose credits include producer on the cg-animated series Momonsters for RTVE in Spain, executive producer on the indie animated feature Winnipeg, Seeds of Hope, and production manager on Nella the Princess Knight for Nickelodeon.
  • The companies have a fruitful history together, having worked on titles including Mia and Me: The Hero of Centopia and the upcoming Giants of La Mancha (trailer below). Joined by Viva Kids, the trio will produce new films and series, distributed by Studio 100 Media internationally, with Viva Pictures handling feature distribution in North America.
