‘Kiki’s Delivery Service’ Flies Back To Theaters, This Time in IMAX
More than three decades after it first enchanted audiences, Kiki’s Delivery Service is returning to North American cinemas in a newly remastered 4K presentation, heading exclusively to IMAX theaters on March 13.
The re-release marks the first time the 1989 Ghibli classic will ever screen on IMAX, offering a new way to experience Hayao Miyazaki’s iconic coming-of-age story.
The release is being handled by GKIDS as part of its continued partnership with IMAX to bring restored Studio Ghibli titles back to theaters in premium formats. First announced last year, the collaboration has already delivered several large-format releases, with Kiki’s Delivery Service now joining the lineup as its latest entry.
While the film was never designed for giant screens, its sense of space and motion feels well matched to the IMAX format, and a 4K remaster will certainly help cover up any unexpected blemishes.
Showings will be available in both the original Japanese language with subtitles and the English-language dub. Tickets are on sale now in the U.S. and Canada.
