Netflix is planning to give the KPop Demon Hunters sequel something its predecessor never got: a proper theatrical release.

Speaking Wednesday at Bloomberg Screentime in Los Angeles, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos said the animated follow-up will be among the streamer’s increasingly ambitious theatrical plays.

“When the KPop Demon Hunters sequel comes, you can expect a very broad theatrical release,” Sarandos said.

A few years ago, this would have been a much bigger story, but given the company’s recent softening on its theatrical stance, giving KPDH the longest and widest run possible feels like a no-brainer. Sarandos also said that the company is now looking for ways to serve audiences who want to see certain films in theaters without diminishing their value on Netflix.

Most notably in animation, the streamer has a 47-day wide release planned for Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory.

The original KPop Demon Hunters, directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans and produced by Sony Pictures Animation, debuted directly on Netflix in June 2025 and became the platform’s most-watched original film. A sing-along version later received a limited theatrical run in August and topped the North American box office, bringing in an estimated $19 million.

Netflix officially announced the sequel earlier this year, with Kang and Appelhans returning and Sony Pictures Animation again producing.
