The teaser debuted Friday at D23, the company’s version of an upfront. Although it reveals little about the story, it provides the clearest indication yet of how Bluey, Bingo, Bandit, Chilli, and their world have been reimagined for a theatrical production. The characters retain the simple shapes and familiar designs of the series, now translated into three-dimensional models.

According to Disney, the film takes place over an action-packed day during which a major surprise changes everything for Bluey and her family.

Series creator Joe Brumm is writing and directing, with longtime Bluey director Richard Jeffery co-directing. Amber Naismith (Happy Feet, The Lego Movie) is producing, and Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack will return as Chilli and Bandit.

Ludo Studio is producing in collaboration with BBC Studios, which is financing and licensing the film. Walt Disney Studios will distribute. Brisbane-based Cosmic Dino Studio is providing end-to-end animation services.

The film arrives at a remarkable commercial high point for the franchise. Bluey was the most-streamed program in the U.S. for the second consecutive year in 2025, generating 45.2 billion viewing minutes. It was also the top children’s show on CBeebies and Disney+ in the U.K.

The Bluey Movie opens exclusively in theaters on August 6, 2027.
