Time Stands Still In ‘Chimney Town’ Sequel Trailer Ahead Of Berlinale World Premiere (EXCLUSIVE)
We’re delighted to exclusively reveal the first official English-subtitled trailer for Chimney Town: Frozen in Time (Entotsumachi no Poupelle: Yakusoku no Tokeidai). The highly anticipated sequel from Studio4°C premieres this week at the Berlinale in the Generation Kplus section.
From director Yusuke Hirota, Frozen in Time expands the whimsical universe first brought to the big screen in Poupelle of Chimney Town, returning audiences to the atmospheric steampunk world where chimneys puncture the skyline, and unlikely friendships redefine hope. The film follows young Lubicchi as he ventures into a surreal realm known as the Millennium Fortress, where time itself has stopped, but mysteries abound, and the clock waits for no one.
According to Hirota:
We live in a world that constantly demands convenience, efficiency, and instant results. While technological advancement has certainly enriched our lives, there are things we must never forget – things we must never lose, no matter how far technology takes us. This film seeks to express those timeless values through the act of waiting – waiting with courage, conviction, and unwavering faith – delivered in the form of an animated film.
The newly released trailer teases the film’s distinctive visual language, blending CG animated characters featuring 2D textures and lines with intricately layered backgrounds that reflect the hybrid aesthetics Studio°C has become known for.
Booked for Berlin’s Generation strand, a program dedicated to outstanding works for young audiences and family animation, Chimney Town: Frozen in Time marks a significant festival platform for the expanding franchise, as the Berlinale and its European Film Market place increased emphasis on animated films and projects.
