Back On Top: ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Returns To The Top Of Netflix’s Movie List As Its OST Keeps Rocking The Charts
Netflix’s animated sensation KPop Demon Hunters has further solidified its status as a global hit, reclaiming the No. 1 spot on the platform’s English-language film chart after being briefly displaced by The Old Guard 2.
The Sony Pictures Animation production, distributed exclusively by Netflix, garnered another 24.2 million views, or 40.4 million hours, globally in the streamer’s latest reporting period (July 7-13).
The film’s momentum extends well beyond the screen, too. Its soundtrack, powered by fictional K-pop trio HUNTR/X, is breaking records across the music industry. The standout track “Golden” has now climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking the first chart-topping single from an animated film soundtrack since Disney’s Encanto in 2022. Overall, the soundtrack logged 96.3 million on-demand streams in its third week.
Other tracks from the soundtrack remain dominant on Spotify’s Daily Top Songs Global chart, with “Your Idol” at No. 9 and “Soda Pop” at No. 14, among several others charting in the Top 100.
KPop Demon Hunters, directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, blends high-energy musical numbers with supernatural action, following HUNTR/X as they balance their lives as global pop icons with battling demonic forces threatening the world. The film’s blend of anime aesthetics and pop music flair has clearly struck a chord with both animation fans and K-pop devotees worldwide.
For Netflix, which has faced challenges in its original animation slate this year, KPop Demon Hunters marks a much-needed win. With upcoming releases like Genndy Tartakovsky’s Fixed, the Roald Dahl-inspired The Twits, and family feature In Your Dreams later this year, the platform will be hoping to replicate the success of its K-pop-infused blockbuster.
