TIFFCOM, the industry portion of the Tokyo International Film Festival, will return this fall with an expanded program focused on Japanese IP, anime, artificial intelligence, and international co-production.

The content market will hold its 23rd edition October 28–30 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Trade Center Hamamatsucho-kan. The event brings together rights holders, buyers, producers, and other industry professionals working across film, television, and animation.

Among this year’s major initiatives is an expanded Tokyo IP Market: Adaptation & Remake. The program handles adaptation rights for manga and novels, as well as remake rights for existing productions.

The expansion follows TIFFCOM’s partnership with Cannes’ Marché du Film on the inaugural Japan IP Market back in May. More than 700 people registered for the market’s pitching sessions, panels, and related programs, according to TIFFCOM’s latest release.

“Our conference program will feature approximately 20 sessions covering a wide range of topics, including the global expansion of Japanese IP, the latest anime industry report, AI, and international business and collaboration,” said TIFFCOM managing director Kaori Ikeda.

TIFFCOM will also hold the seventh edition of its Tokyo Gap-Financing Market, which is expected to select around 20 projects seeking international partners. This year, the initiative is collaborating with Frontières, the genre-focused project market operated by Canada’s Fantasia International Film Festival.

Organizers say the partnership will place particular emphasis on genre projects, an area they identify as one of the strengths of the Asian content business.

Last year’s TIFFCOM attracted more than 4,600 industry attendees from 46 countries and regions, a 13% increase from the previous edition. International attendance rose by 10%.

Visitor registration is now open through the official TIFFCOM website.
