Netflix has revealed that the highly anticipated second season of its critically acclaimed, multi-award-winning original series Blue Eye Samurai will stream worldwide starting January 19.

The streamer also unveiled a new trailer for Mizu’s journey to London, seen below:

Picking up where season one left off, Blue Eye Samurai‘s second season will follow Mizu, its revenge-seeking protagonist, as she leaves Japan and heads to London to look for the remaining two men who could be her father, so she can finish what she started in season one and kill them both. According to Netflix’s official logline:

In Season 2, Mizu’s bloody quest continues in London, where she faces new friends, old foes, and her own demons. In Japan, Akemi and Taigen navigate Edo Castle under a dangerous new Shogun, while Ringo searches for new purpose.

Amber Noizumi and Michael Green return as the show’s creators, writers, and executive producers. Blue Spirit is once again handling the animation, with Jane Wu serving as supervising director and producer. Erwin Stoff also executive produces.

According to Noizumi and Green:

When we started this project, we made a commitment to take this very personal story set in Edo period Japan and bring it to life in the most authentic and beautiful way possible. Our animators, historians, musicians, martial artists, and voice cast made this a reality beyond our expectations. We are thankful to our entire team and to our viewers from all over the world who have shown such passion for Mizu and her path of revenge. Mizu has a lot more blood to spill!

Voice performers Maya Erskine, Brenda Song, Darren Barnet, and Masi Oka are all returning for Season 2, joined by newcomers Jonathan Pryce, Joel Kim Booster, and Sherry Cola.

Blue Eye Samurai stands out as one of Netflix’s biggest animation success stories. Season 1 won four Emmys in 2024, including outstanding animated program and three individual achievement awards. It was also nominated for best sound editing for a comedy or drama. At the Annie Awards that year, the show swept all six categories in which it was nominated, including best animated TV/medioa production for mature audiences.
