Stream A While And Listen: Blizzard And Netflix Developing Animated ‘Diablo’ Series

Stay a while and listen. Blizzard Entertainment and Netflix have confirmed that they’re developing a new animated series set in the world of the iconic Diablo video game franchise.

The project was announced during the opening ceremony of BlizzCon 2026, although Blizzard shared few details about the adaptation and Netflix shared none. No animation studio, creative team, release date, episode count, or narrative premise has been revealed. Some online accounts have posted images and clips from a recent ad by Passion Pictures, but there is no indication the studio is attached to this project.

“Sanctuary’s darkness is spreading,” reads Blizzard’s sparse announcement. “Blizzard and Netflix are developing a new animated series set in the world of Diablo, bringing the franchise to a new screen. We’ll have more to share as the series takes shape. Until then, stay awhile… and stay tuned.”

The series will expand a dark-fantasy franchise that began with the original Diablo game in 1996. Set primarily in the mortal realm of Sanctuary, the games chronicle humanity’s battles against demonic forces, including the franchise’s titular Lord of Terror and his hellish siblings.

Blizzard revealed the Netflix project as part of a larger slate of Diablo announcements at BlizzCon. The company also confirmed that Diablo V is in development for a spring 2029 release. According to Blizzard, the new game will unfold in a version of Sanctuary where Diablo has triumphed, and its heroes have been defeated.

Blizzard has not indicated when further information about the animated series will be available, but we’ll keep you posted when we know more.
